Gov. Akeredolu Hands Over To Deputy As He Commences Fresh Medical Leave

In a statement released Tuesday by his chief spokesperson, Richard Olatunde, Governor Akeredolu also requested his deputy, Lucky Aiyedatiwa, to temporarily take over his duties while he’s away for treatment.

A copy of the statement received by Freshreporters news shows the unwell governor saying an official letter about his leave and a document formally transferring power to Aiyedatiwa, as required by law, will be sent to the State House of Assembly.

He revealed the medical break starts Wednesday (December 13, 2023) as part of his ongoing treatment.

“Ondo State Governor, Arakunrin Oluwarotimi Akeredolu, SAN, CON, will start his medical leave on Wednesday, December 13, 2023, to continue his medical treatment,” the statement reads.

“During his medical leave, Governor Akeredolu will prioritize his health and make sure he fully recovers before returning to his official duties.

“An official letter about the medical leave and a document formally transferring power, as required by the Nigerian Constitution, will be sent to the House of Assembly.

“In Governor Akeredolu’s absence, Deputy Governor Hon. Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa will temporarily take over his responsibilities.

“Governor Akeredolu expresses his gratitude for the unwavering support and love of the people of Ondo State. He assures them that his administration remains committed to the path of progress and prosperity for the people.

“As a Senior Advocate of Nigeria and a well-respected Nigerian, Governor Akeredolu has always given his deputy temporary power during his annual vacations. This happened on April 1, 2021, April 1, 2022, April 3, 2023, and July 10, 2023, when he took previous vacations,” the statement adds.
