An FCT High Court has put off the lawsuit seeking compensation for an illegal organ harvesting victim until February 19, 2024.
Judge Abdullahi Aminu postponed the case on Monday to allow the parties to prepare for the hearing.
Father Sues Over Son’s Kidney Removal:
The lawsuit was filed by the father of the 16-year-old victim, Salaudeen Saliman Adedoyin, against Dr. Aremu Abayomi Adeniran, Dr. Christopher Otabor, and Alliance Hospital and Services Ltd.
Freshreporters News gathered that the case began after a Daily Trust investigation exposed an organ harvesting ring and implicated Alliance Hospital.
Lawyer Seeks Time to Prepare Defense:
At the hearing, the defense lawyer, C. J. Dimgba, told the court he was recently assigned the case and hadn’t reviewed the file. He requested an adjournment to prepare for the hearing.
Counsel to the Legal Aid Counsel, E. M. Kolawole, who brought the matter to court, didn’t oppose the postponement. The Legal Aid Council filed the suit on September 9th, seeking N500 million in damages for wrongfully removing Adedoyin’s son’s right kidney.
Son Recounts Ordeal at Alliance Hospital:
Adedoyin’s son claimed that on February 9, 2023, he met one Emmanuel Melody, who offered him a job at Alliance Hospital in Nasarawa State. He described how, during the job application process, Melody and other staff made him sign an electronic document without reading it and took X-rays on the day he was supposed to register for his JAMB exam.
Hospital Denies Allegations, Calls Report “Calumny”:
Meanwhile, the management of Alliance Hospital has denied the Daily Trust report on organ harvesting, calling it a smear campaign against the hospital. Medical Director Dr. Otabor C.U. Fwa stated: “The article writer prejudged the hospital, declared it guilty, and demanded punishment without considering the facts.”
As reported by Freshreporters News, Daily Trust’s Executive Director of Digital and Editorial, Naziru Mikailu, rejected the hospital’s claim, asserting: “The report was based on a thorough three-month investigation. We stand by our story.”…[CONTINUE READING HERE]>>
