Chief Dele Momodu, publisher of Ovation magazine, has charged First Lady Oluremi Tinubu with insulting Osun state Governor Ademola Adeleke during a public gathering, an incident captured in a widely shared video.
The footage circulating on social media depicts Mrs. Tinubu confronting the Osun governor at an event in Ile-Ife. Momodu criticized her actions as inappropriate for someone in the position of First Lady, labeling it as public bullying towards an elected official.
He also recounted a previous encounter with Mrs. Tinubu at the funeral of Kemi Nelson in Lagos, where she challenged him regarding his political views. Momodu recalled, “She asked, ‘Bob Dee, you mean you won’t campaign for my husband?’ to which I responded, ‘I can’t Ma, I’m in a different party!’”
He expressed disbelief that a pastor from the Redeemed Christian Church of God would take issue with a governor publicly praising God, raising the question of whether a similar reaction would occur if a northern governor were quoting the Qur’an.
Momodu emphasized that the fault does not lie solely with the First Lady, suggesting that Nigerians have fostered an environment of political intolerance. He praised Adeleke as a gentleman and noted his composed response to the situation.
