Former VP Candidate Datti Baba-Ahmed Vows to Remain in Labour Party, Distances Self from Peter Obi

Yusuf Datti Baba-Ahmed, the former Labour Party (LP) vice-presidential candidate, has declared he will not defect from the party ahead of the 2027 elections, distancing himself from Peter Obi’s recent political move. Baba-Ahmed was Obi’s running mate in the 2023 presidential election, which the LP lost to Bola Tinubu of the APC.

Speaking at a press briefing at the LP’s national secretariat in Abuja, Baba-Ahmed stated he has no intention of following Obi, who has since aligned with the African Democratic Congress (ADC). He affirmed his commitment to the Labour Party, which he believes remains a viable platform for national change.

The former lawmaker expressed his readiness to play an active role in Nigeria’s future, pledging to be available to “help fix the country” in 2027. He dismissed the coalition behind the ADC as a group of “disgruntled politicians” and stated he remains unconvinced by the rival party.
