Former Senator Elisha Abbo Arraigned in Abuja for Alleged Rápe of Minör, Granted ₦50 Million Bail

A former senator, Ishaku Elisha Abbo, has been arraigned at the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) High Court in Gwagwalada on charges involving a 13-year-old schoolgirl. Abbo and a co-defendant pleaded not guilty to the charges brought by the Inspector General of Police. The court granted both defendants bail under stringent conditions.

Presiding Justice I. Mohammed granted Abbo bail in the sum of ₦50 million and ordered him to surrender his international passport. The co-defendant was granted bail of ₦40 million. Both must provide two sureties of good standing. The case has been adjourned to February 11, 2026.

The allegations stem from a report by a Junior Secondary School 3 student, who claims she was persuaded by a family acquaintance to go to a relative’s home, where the former senator allegedly committed inappropriate acts. Authorities state they have gathered sufficient evidence to proceed with a trial.

This is not Abbo’s first legal controversy. In 2019, he was fined N50 million for assaulting a woman in an Abuja shop and has also been implicated in a violent attack on a former aide. The current case, Inspector General of Police v. Senator Ishaku Elisha Abbo & Anor, includes nine counts related to offences against a minor.
