Florida Couple Files Lawsuit Over IVF Mix-Up Leading to Birth of Unrelated Child

A Florida couple has initiated legal action against a fertility clinic following an alleged embryo mix-up that resulted in the birth of a child who is not genetically related to them.

Tiffany Score and Steven Mills, who had their embryos stored at Orlando’s IVF Life, Inc. in 2020, underwent an embryo transfer in April 2025. However, the baby girl born from the procedure did not resemble them, and subsequent DNA testing confirmed she is not their biological child.

The couple now fears that their own genetic embryo may have been mistakenly implanted into another patient. While they have formed a bond with the newborn, they have stated they are prepared to relinquish custody if the child’s biological parents are identified and make a claim.

Their lawsuit demands immediate court intervention to compel the clinic, IVF Life, Inc., and Dr. Milton McNichol, to notify all potentially affected patients, perform genetic testing, and disclose whether other families are involved in similar mix-ups. An emergency hearing was conducted before Judge Margaret Schreiber, during which the clinic’s representatives indicated they are fully cooperating with the investigation.
