Federal Government Bans SS3 Admissions and Transfers Nationwide to F!ght Exam Fràud

The Federal Government has instituted a nationwide ban on admitting or transferring students into Senior Secondary School Three (SS3) in all public and private schools, effective from the 2026/2027 academic session.

This directive, announced by the Federal Ministry of Education, aims to combat widespread examination malpractice and restore integrity to Nigeria’s education system. The ministry cited the prevalent use of “special centres” during major external exams as a key concern prompting the policy change.

Under the new rules, student admissions and transfers will only be allowed into SS1 and SS2 classes. “Admission or transfer into SS3 will no longer be permitted under any circumstance,” the ministry’s statement declared.

Officials explained that the ban is designed to prevent the unethical, last-minute movement of students seeking an unfair advantage in exams. It also aims to ensure proper academic monitoring and promote continuity in learning throughout the senior secondary cycle.

The ministry has instructed all school proprietors, principals, and administrators to comply strictly with the new policy, warning that violations will result in sanctions under existing education regulations. The government reaffirmed its commitment to upholding rigorous academic standards, ensuring fairness, and rebuilding public confidence in national examinations.
