Armed bandits attacked the First ECWA Church in Ayetoro Kiri, Kabba/Bunu Local Government Area of Kogi State, on Sunday, December 14, 2025, killing one person and reportedly kidnapping several congregants.
The deceased has been identified as Jayjay. As of the latest reports, the precise number of worshippers abducted remains unconfirmed, with security forces and local officials still evaluating the scene. This is the second violent attack on a church in the Okun region within weeks, intensifying fear among the local populace.
On November 30, 2025, gunmen targeted a Cherubim and Seraphim Church in Ejiba, Yagba West LGA. In that incident, the assailants abducted a cleric known as Orlando and a number of worshippers, later issuing a ransom demand. Reports indicate they initially demanded ₦500 million, which was later reduced to ₦200 million, giving families a two-day ultimatum.
Residents also noted that Ayetoro Kiri was targeted approximately three weeks prior when armed men attempted to raid a local school. Community vigilantes were credited with successfully repelling that attack, averting any casualties or kidnappings.
This latest church assault has amplified deep concerns over the deteriorating security situation in Okun land. Residents are urgently calling for the intervention of both state security agencies and the Kogi State Government to protect lives and prevent further violence.
