FCT NSCDC Leader Urges Personnel to Treat Manhole Thieves Like “Armed Robbers”

The leader of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Olusola Odumosu, has directed the NSCDC personnel to take strong action and follow a government directive treating individuals who steal manhole covers as if they were armed robbers.

The FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike, had recently instructed the NSCDC to stop considering those who steal manhole covers as ordinary thieves, but rather to treat them with the severity reserved for armed robbers.

According to a statement released on Tuesday by Comfort Okomanyi, a spokesperson for the NSCDC Command, Odumosu expressed concern about the increasing occurrence of acts such as damaging street lights, stealing manhole covers, railings, and railway materials within the FCT.

Speaking to Area Commanders, Division Officers, and other members of the NSCDC Command, Odumosu mentioned that the FCT Minister, Mr. Nyesom Wike, had charged the NSCDC and other related agencies in the area to ensure security and reduce criminal activities in the city.

He emphasized the importance of united efforts to stop these illegal actions, highlighting that these criminals were growing too comfortable with sabotaging the country’s assets.

He encouraged the officers to work diligently to protect the FCT’s critical infrastructures from vandalism and unlawful activities.

Odumosu also conveyed that the FCT Minister had assured them of the necessary resources to perform their duties effectively, and he stressed that he wouldn’t tolerate any excuses for failure.
