Eight Women Accused Of Witchcraft Killed In Guinea-Bissau

According to a top official, eight women in the remote north of Guinea-Bissau were allegedly poisoned and killed.

According to AFP reports, the women were accused of practicing witchcraft.

FRESHREPORTERS NEWS reports that an animist priest had forced women to swallow poison after two children in the Cacheu district of Culade died suddenly from an illness.

Carlos Sanha, a senior administrative officer in the town, revealed that eight women, who are all over the age of 50 had died while 21 others were hospitalized in the local capital of Sao Domingos.

Sanha said, “It keeps recurring in this area,where traditional animist beliefs remain strong,

“We intend to take the decisions needed to put an end to these practices from ancestral times.

“It’s sad and unacceptable in the 21st century. We can no longer tolerate such practices.”

The Guinea junta has seized the passports and frozen the accounts of the dissolved government officials.

Meanwhile, in another news, the ruling military junta in Guinea has ordered the freezing of bank accounts belonging to government members and the seizure of their passports. This action was taken after the administration was dissolved for undisclosed reasons.

According to FRESHREPORTERS NEWS, the military, who took control in a coup in September 2021, declared on Monday that they were dissolving the government that had been in power since July 2022.

In the presence of approximately 20 other soldiers, the Chief of Staff, General Ibrahima Sory Bangoura, announced on state television that the junta had ordered the freezing of their accounts, confiscation of their travel documents, and removal of their service vehicles, bodyguards, and assistants.
