At least eighteen students got sick after eating food provided to their school by Osun’s government-run feeding program, known as O-Meal.
Osun’s Information Commissioner, Kolapo Alimi, said Governor Adeleke is angry about what happened and wants an investigation into the possible poisoning of students.
Freshreporters News reports that the Governor learned about this bad situation from his O-Meal advisor, Grace Oluwaseyi Ayodele.
Nathaniel Ojetola, the head of the local education board who helped the affected students, said 18 of them were rushed to a hospital in the capital city, got treatment, and were later released.
Governor Adeleke also said no more food should be cooked at the school until the investigation is finished.
The statement also says a meeting is set for Tuesday morning with cooks from the affected schools and the O-Meal program planner.
Governor Adeleke has instructed stricter food rules and better checks on the O-Meal program to prevent this from happening again. The state government has also paid the medical bills for the affected students.
The education board head, who was on the front lines of helping, said 18 students in total were treated and released.
The Commissioner also said there are 200 students at the school, and 103 of them get food from the O-Meal program.
