Edo PDP Chair: We Plan to Block State Roads in Protest of Poor Federal Highways

The Edo State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has revealed its intention to stage a protest by blocking entrances to state roads connected to federal government roads.

This action is in response to the deteriorating condition of federal highways and aims to pressure the federal government into taking the necessary measures for their reconstruction and rehabilitation.

Dr. Anthony Aziegbemi, the chairman of the party, made this announcement during a campaign rally in Benin, as part of the preparations for the upcoming local government elections in Edo North and Central.

Aziegbemi emphasized the dire state of federal roads in Edo, citing examples such as the Ebele to Uromi route where hundreds of trucks remain stranded, causing significant disruptions and delays.

He expressed disbelief at the extent of the problem, questioning the wellbeing of drivers stuck on these roads for days without adequate provisions.

He deemed it a clear display of animosity towards the state governor.

Aziegbemi noted the adverse impact of these poor federal roads on motorists, who are forced to divert to state roads, causing further damage and deterioration to those routes.

He highlighted the need to protect the state-funded road projects from further strain and deterioration caused by diverted traffic.

In light of these concerns, Aziegbemi declared the party’s intention to block entrances to state roads connected to federal government roads within the state.

This move is intended to draw attention to the urgent need for federal intervention and action in reconstructing and rehabilitating the federal highways.

He concluded by commending the patience of the state’s residents despite the challenges posed by the dilapidated roads.

He assured them that the state government would continue its efforts to improve the condition of the state roads, ultimately aiming to enhance the lives of the people…[CONTINUE READING HERE]>>
