Commotion at Finance Ministry as Protesting Contractors Block Minister, Gûnshots Reported

A protest by local contractors led to chaos and reported gunshots at the Federal Ministry of Finance in Abuja on Monday. Members of the All Indigenous Contractors Association of Nigeria (AICAN) barricaded the ministry’s main gate, demanding payment for outstanding debts they claim are owed by the federal government.

The situation escalated when the Minister of State for Finance, Doris Uzoka-Anite, arrived at the complex. Security operatives attempted to clear a path for her, leading to a physical confrontation with the protesters who resisted the move. During the tense standoff, a gunshot was reportedly fired as security personnel tried to disperse the crowd, causing panic in the area.

It remains unclear if there were any injuries. The protest temporarily disrupted normal operations at the ministry as security forces worked to restore order. As of the latest reports, the Federal Ministry of Finance has not issued an official statement regarding the contractors’ claims or the day’s events.
