Rapper Speed Darlington Laments U.S. Experience: “Only Gave Me a Crim!nal Record”

Nigerian entertainer Speed Darlington has spoken out about his disillusionment with the United States, where he lived for 23 years. In a candid reflection, he stated that the country “didn’t favor” him, and his primary takeaways were multiple arrests and a lasting criminal record.

Darlington claimed his time in the U.S. eroded his confidence and sense of self-worth, describing the environment as emotionally draining and isolating. He cited challenges like being judged for his accent and feeling pressured to constantly over-perform due to racial bias, stating, “In that society, a Black man is worth nothing.”

The rapper expressed fear of police brutality, noting that even the harsh treatment of white citizens shocked him and heightened his anxiety as an African immigrant. He now views the U.S. as a place for short family visits rather than a home, crediting his financial success and property to support from Nigerians both at home and abroad.

Darlington concluded with a proverb summing up his outlook: “It’s better to be free in the forest than be at the center of everything and live in a cage,” suggesting he values personal freedom and dignity over the perceived prestige of living in America.
