Music Executive Claims Davido Would “Win Easily” as Governor, Questions Burna Boy’s Political Appeal

Veteran music executive Seyi Sodimu has sparked online debate with his views on the political potential of Nigeria’s top music stars. During a television interview, he asserted that while both are global icons, Davido would win a governorship election “one hundred percent,” whereas Burna Boy likely could not.

Sodimu acknowledged that Wizkid, Davido, and Burna Boy the industry’s “Big Three” have all achieved legendary status through international success. However, he drew a sharp distinction regarding mass appeal, stating that Davido’s influence extends far “beyond music.”

“Davido surpasses music. If Davido ran for governor today, he would win. One hundred percent. I don’t think Burna Boy could win as a governor,” Sodimu said. He attributed Davido’s perceived political advantage to his broad public appeal, personal connections, and approachable public persona, which he believes translate directly into political capital.

He likened Burna Boy’s situation to that of the late Tupac Shakur, suggesting that immense cultural impact does not always equate to widespread electoral acceptance. While actress Shaffy Bello, also a guest, did not comment on the political comparison, she agreed all three artists have reached legendary status.

Sodimu concluded by praising the artists for elevating Nigeria’s global image, noting that Nigerians “live vicariously through them” and their accomplishments.
