Newly appointed Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Disu, has declared that officers of the Nigeria Police Force must begin to see citizens as their “boss,” vowing zero tolerance for corruption and impunity under his watch.
Speaking shortly after his appointment by President Bola Tinubu, Disu described the moment as emotional and unexpected, expressing gratitude for the trust placed in him.
He noted that the President’s commendation of his career and service was both encouraging and demanding, underscoring the high expectations to deliver on his mandate.
Disu said one of his immediate priorities would be to engage with officers and men of the Force, stressing that effective policing hinges on public trust and cooperation.
“No police anywhere in the world can succeed without the cooperation of members of the public,” he said, adding that citizens must be treated with dignity and respect.
The IGP-designate assured that officers’ welfare and motivation would receive due attention, noting that a well-supported workforce is critical to professionalism and accountability.
He reaffirmed that the era of impunity within the Force is over, pledging strict compliance with human rights standards and a firm stance against corruption.
Disu also acknowledged the country’s ongoing security challenges, including banditry and insurgency. He commended officers for their sacrifices and promised to boost morale and strengthen strategic operations nationwide.
