Major General Ekundayo Babakayode Opaleye (rtd), a former military Governor of old Ondo State, has passed away due to a heart attack in Abeokuta, Ogun State.
Freshreporters News noted that General Opaleye served as the military governor of old Ondo State from August 1986 to December 1987, during General Ibrahim Badamosi Babangida’s regime.
He succeeded Admiral Mike Akhigbe and later handed over to Commodore Olabode George.
Until his demise on Saturday, November 18, 2023, General Opaleye held the title of Balogun Erunmu of Owu in Abeokuta, Ogun State.

In another news, Prof Bola Akinterinwa, a former Director-General of the Nigerian Institute of International Affairs, has advised President Bola Tinubu against appointing political cronies as ambassadors.
Akinterinwa suggests that academic ambassadors with expertise in international affairs should be considered over political allies to avoid using ambassadorial positions as political rewards.
