Former Kwara State Governor Passes Away at 80

Group Captain Salaudeen Adebola Latinwo (Rtd), a former Military Governor of Kwara State, sadly passed away at the age of 80.

Latinwo’s peaceful passing occurred in the early hours of Saturday, August 12, while he was undergoing treatment for a prolonged illness at a hospital in the United Kingdom (UK).

Born on July 12, 1943, Group Captain Latinwo served as the Military Governor of Kwara State from January 1984 to August 1985, during the tenure of Major General Muhammadu Buhari’s Military Government.

A native of Offa, Latinwo was a part of the initial group of officer cadets inducted into the Nigerian Air Force (NAF) back in 1963. He began his service under the guidance of Colonel Gerhard Kahtz, who was leading the German Air Force Assistance Group (GAFAG) on secondment to the Nigerian Air Force.

Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq of Kwara State expressed his condolences to the entire state, especially the Offa community, following the passing of the former military administrator.

In an official statement issued on Saturday by his spokesperson, Rafiu Ajakaye, Governor AbdulRazaq expressed his deep sadness, noting that the loss of this esteemed elder statesman creates a significant void among the distinguished statesmen whose wisdom and experience have been invaluable.

The statement conveyed the Governor’s sentiments: “On behalf of the AbdulRazaq family, the government, and the people of Kwara State, the Governor extends heartfelt condolences to the late military administrator’s family, the Offa community, and the military establishment during this time of loss.”
