Australian Man Stábbed by Partner Over Chores Says He’ll Forgive Her

A man in Perth, Australia, who was allegedly stabbed by his fiancée during a domestic argument says he is prepared to forgive her, calling the attack an uncharacteristic misunderstanding.

Police responded to a home in Thornlie around 10 p.m. on Sunday and found 47-year-old Matt Lester with two stab wounds. His partner, 47-year-old Laureen Gaye Sprenger, was charged with unlawful wounding under aggravated circumstances and appeared in court on Monday.

During police interviews, Sprenger reportedly stated she was angered by her partner’s perceived laziness and failure to assist with household duties. She allegedly confessed to having thought about stabbing him and said she would kill him if she saw him again.

Speaking to the Daily Mail, Lester displayed his injuries: “I got a reasonable-sized slice to my chest near the collarbone, and another two-inch cut to my shoulder, about 20 staples all up.”

Despite his wounds, he expressed greater concern for his fiancée than for himself. “The only thing that hurts is my heart. I can’t sleep, I just miss her so much,” he said. “I’m not worried about anything. I love my missus, and I hope to see her home real soon.”

He refuted the claim that the altercation was about chores, suggesting instead that she may have been intoxicated. “The whole thing was a misunderstanding, I think she was drugged because I’ve never seen her like that before. She completely blacked out.”

Lester explained that earlier in the evening, she had been drinking with a neighbour and later became incapacitated. “She’s never been like that,” he added.

The couple met on Facebook six years ago and moved from Brisbane to Perth three years ago for a fresh start. Lester insisted their relationship has never been violent and that neither of them uses drugs. “We left all that behind,” he said.

He maintained that Sprenger has no recollection of the incident and believes it is something they can overcome. “I just want her to come home, we’ll get through this,” he stated.
