Assault: Seun Kuti trial stalled as migistrate absent in court

The trial of Afrobeat Music Star, professionally known as Seun Kuti was stalled on Monday, 3rd of July, 2023 following the absence of Chief Magistrate Adeola Olatunbosun of the Yaba Magistrates’ court.

Freshreporters media noted that the police had charged the Nigerian musician to court, accusing him of assaulting a police officer.

The Afrobeat Star allegedly committed the offence on 13th of May, 2023 on the Third Mainland Bridge, Lagos State.

The police charged him to court with slapping an inspector after driving dangerously on the bridge and deliberately blocking a moving police vehicle.

The case was adjourned till 3rd of July, 2033, after the court refused to grant an application by the police to formally arraign Kuti. Magistrate Olatubosun said at the time, that she needed the DPP’s advice before proceeding with the case.

Seun Kuti and his counsel, as well as the prosecution team, were in court but it could not sit due to Olatubosun’s absence.

Reports gathered revealed that she has resumed her administrative leave and was thus absent in court sitting today.
