Anthony Joshua May Retire from Boxing Following Fátal Car Accident, Family Source Reveals

A family source indicates that former world heavyweight champion Anthony Joshua is contemplating retirement from professional boxing. This consideration follows a fatal car crash in Nigeria that killed two of his close friends and team members.

According to Joshua’s uncle, Adedamola Joshua, the boxer privately communicated this potential decision to his family, describing it as an emotional turning point. His uncle stated that the family feels “relief” at the prospect of his retirement, as they endure intense emotional pressure during his fights.

The boxer has reportedly pledged lifelong support to the families of the two victims, strength coach Sina Ghami and personal trainer Latif ‘Latz’ Ayodele. Joshua shared images with the bereaved families on social media with the caption “My Brother’s Keeper,” signaling his commitment.

The fatal accident occurred on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway, where their vehicle collided with a stationary truck. Joshua sustained minor injuries, while Ghami and Ayodele died at the scene. A funeral service was later held at the London Central Mosque.

In a related development, the driver of the vehicle, Adeniyi Kayode, has been charged with causing death by dangerous driving and other traffic offenses. He pleaded not guilty, and the case has been adjourned.
