Governor Pastor Umo Eno of Akwa Ibom State has announced plans to introduce public transportation buses as part of the government’s efforts to alleviate the impact of fuel subsidy removal.
Eno revealed that discussions are underway with various companies to finalize arrangements for the introduction of these public transport buses.
Speaking in Uyo over the weekend, the governor explained his choice to utilize the state-owned commercial airline, Ibom Air, rather than his official jet.
He clarified that this decision was aimed at promoting the airline and the Akwa Ibom brand.
Furthermore, Governor Eno dismissed speculations suggesting that the previous governor, Mr. Udom Emmanuel, had taken control of the state’s official jet.
He labeled such claims as baseless and without foundation, asserting that these malicious allegations serve no positive purpose.
Governor Eno emphasized the state’s complete ownership of the airline, stating,
“We are promoting the Akwa Ibom brand and the state owns a hundred percent shares in this airline. By virtue of my office, I am the chief marketing officer of the airline if you may ask. My job is to promote our brand.”
“We are planning to bring buses as part of the palliative. We are in talks with some companies. When the buses finally come and I board one of those buses, would people now say the immediate past Governor has taken over my official vehicles?”
“There is no truth whatsoever that the immediate past Governor is with our aircraft. This is not just the kind of thing we should be talking or arguing about. Akwa Ibom should move beyond this sort of cheap talk.”
“Again, I want to make it very clear that everyone has his style of leadership. My own style is to demystify governance. I like to get in contact with people, and I like to be myself. This government thing will come and go. So what is the big deal?”, he stated.
Regarding the plan to introduce public buses as part of the palliative measures, Governor Eno highlighted ongoing discussions with companies. He anticipated that once the arrangements are finalized, the public transport buses will be introduced.
Governor Eno also addressed concerns that the previous governor might have taken control of his official vehicles, stating that this would not be the case.
He urged the public to focus on more substantial matters rather than engaging in baseless discussions.
In closing, Governor Eno shared his leadership approach, emphasizing his preference to connect with people and remain authentic.
He acknowledged that the nature of government leadership is transient and encouraged a forward-looking perspective for the betterment of Akwa Ibom…[CONTINUE READING HERE]>>
