Lagos Governor, Sanwo-Olu Cuts’ State Transport Fares By 50% Over Fuel, Naira Scarcity

Mr Babajide Sanwo-Olu, the Lagos state Governor, has slashed the fares of the state public transport system by 50%.

The Lagos governor revealed this in a video shared by Jubril Gawat, one of his Senior Special Assistant, via his Twitter account on Wednesday.

In the video, Sanwo-Olu stated that the fare reduction was put in place to cushion the effects of the lingering scarcity of fuel and naira scarcity in the country, and also noted that the order will take place immediately on Thursday.

He said, “A 50% cut in fares on all our BRT buses, LAGRIDE taxi scheme, First Mile and Last Mile buses, and Lagos Ferry Services. This will take effect from tomorrow for the next seven days. We will push out more Cowrie Cards to enable more Lagosians to get on board our services”.

The Lagos Governor also revealed that the state government has put in place vulnerable who will distribute foods items to various societies through the food banks.

“I have directed that food banks be set up in various parts of the State to cater for the vulnerable. We will distribute foodstuff to various communities.” He added.
