The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has recorded its first polling unit victory in the ongoing FCT Area Council Elections, defeating the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) at a unit in Abuja.
The win came at polling unit 076, located within the Sani Abacha Estate in Wuse Zone 4, where Dr. Moses Paul, the ADC candidate for Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC), cast his vote.
With only 10 ballots cast due to low voter turnout, ADC secured seven votes, the APC managed two, and one vote was declared invalid.
Dr. Paul attributed the poor turnout to voter confusion caused by movement restrictions earlier announced by the FCT Minister. He described the directive as discouraging and a major factor in the low participation.
He also raised concerns over alleged intimidation of ADC agents in several areas, including Takum Shara and parts of Kabusa ward such as Dogongada and Shereti. According to Paul, some party representatives were reportedly threatened with violence in an apparent bid to suppress voters and tilt the outcome in favour of the ruling party.
While commending election officials at his unit for professionalism and adherence to procedure, Paul condemned what he described as ongoing vote buying in parts of the capital, stressing that such practices undermine the credibility of the electoral process.
Despite the challenges, the AMAC candidate expressed confidence in victory and urged residents to resist intimidation and insist on accountable leadership as results continue to trickle in.
