FCT Minister Nyesom Wike is personally overseeing the conduct of the ongoing area council bye-elections across the Federal Capital Territory.
Wike commenced his monitoring exercise around 12:15 p.m., starting in the Karu area. He has been moving between polling units and collation centres to assess the process firsthand.
Based on field reports, the minister has so far described the elections as peaceful and orderly, with no major incidents of violence, intimidation, or disruption recorded in the areas he visited. A visible security presence has contributed to the calm atmosphere.
However, voter turnout has been notably low in many polling units, including those in Karu, mirroring trends observed in other parts of the FCT such as Kuje and Gwagwalada.
Wike’s visit comes as the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) conducts bye-elections to fill vacant area council seats resulting from court rulings, resignations, and other vacancies.
Voting is scheduled to continue until 2:30 p.m., after which collation and the announcement of results will follow.
