Actor Jonathan Majors, known for his role in “The Last Black Man in San Francisco” and set to star in “Creed III,” could face up to a year in jail after his charge was upgraded to third-degree assault.
Majors had been accused of assaulting and strangling his ex-girlfriend in New York City in March and was initially charged with misdemeanor assault and harassment.
However, a superseding complaint with a charge of third-degree assault was announced at a court hearing on Tuesday, May 9, which could lead to jail time if Majors is found guilty.
His lawyer criticized the Manhattan DA for “fixing” the case in favor of the accuser, despite evidence to the contrary, including video proof showing nothing happened where the woman claimed the assault took place.
Majors has denied all wrongdoing and is set to appear in court on June 13.
