A Coventry University student, Temidayo Awe, has been found guilty of manslaughter for his involvement in the killing of Saul Murray, a father of six, over a fake Rolex watch.

Awe was part of a group of four individuals who had plotted to rob and drug Murray after seeing images of him wearing Rolex watches on Instagram.

They had planned a honey trap which led to Murray’s death due to stab wounds outside his flat in New Town Street on February 27, 2022.

Awe was captured on CCTV leaving Murray’s flat shortly before 2:30 am.

The main suspect responsible for Mr Murray’s death was identified as 31-year-old Ikem Affia after police found a key piece of evidence in the case, a Moncler coat that Affia was wearing during the planned attack.

The coat cost over £1,300, and only a limited number of them were available in the UK at the time.

Cleon Brown and Surpreet Dhillon were also involved in the killing, with Dhillon initially contacting Murray over Instagram.

Awe was sentenced to seven years for manslaughter and six years for conspiracy to commit robbery to run concurrently, while Brown was sentenced to 11 years for manslaughter and nine years for conspiracy to commit robbery to run concurrently.

Dhillon was sentenced to 10 years for manslaughter and 10 years for conspiracy to commit robbery to run concurrently.

Affia was sentenced to life in prison for murder and will have to serve a minimum of 25 years.

This senseless conspiracy to rob resulted in the tragic death of a man, and the sentences given by Judge Michael Simon at Luton Crown Court reflect the severity of the crime. It is a reminder that greed and material possessions can lead to devastating consequences.

“Ikem Affia, 31, of Shore Place, London was sentenced to life in prison for murder and will have to serve a minimum of 25 years. He was also sentenced to 14 years for conspiracy to commit robbery to run concurrently.

“Cleon Brown, 29, of King Edwards Road, South Hackney was sentenced to 11 years for manslaughter and nine years for conspiracy to commit robbery to run concurrently; a total of 11 years.

“Surpreet Dhillon, 36, of Carnarvon Road, London was sentenced to 10 years for manslaughter and 10 years for conspiracy to commit robbery to run concurrently; a total of 10 years.
