A Federal High Court in Abuja has ordered the temporary seizure of 57 properties linked to former Attorney-General of the Federation, Abubakar Malami (SAN). The interim forfeiture was granted to the Federal Government following an application by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), which suspects the assets are proceeds of unlawful activities.
The properties, located in Abuja, Kebbi, Kano, and Kaduna, include luxury hotels, duplexes, shopping plazas, and residential estates. Some notable assets listed are a N5.95 billion duplex in Maitama and the former Harmonia Hotels building in Garki.
Justice Emeka Nwite ordered the publication of the forfeiture notice in a national newspaper, giving any interested parties 14 days to contest the order. The case has been adjourned to later in January for a compliance report.
This civil forfeiture proceeding is separate from an ongoing criminal trial where Malami, his wife, and son face money laundering charges amounting to N8.7 billion. The EFCC alleges they concealed illicit funds through various financial activities and property acquisitions between 2015 and 2025. Malami, who has been granted bail, continues to deny all allegations.
