Abdulsalami Reveals Insights from Meeting with Bazoum: Details of Challenges Faced and Events Discussed

Abdulsalami Abubakar, the former Military Head of State, had a meeting with the recently ousted President of Niger, Bazoum, on Saturday.

Abdulsalami led a prominent group from the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) to Niger to try and find a peaceful solution to the ongoing issues in the country.

Upon arriving in Niger on Saturday, the delegation engaged in diplomatic efforts to reach a resolution with the Niger junta.

They first met with Prime Minister Ali Lamine Zeine at the airport, who then guided them to the presidential palace.

There, they held a meeting with General Abdourahamane Tchiani, who leads the junta, and his team.

Later on, they also met with President Mohamed Bazoum. The discussions lasted around 90 minutes.

After the meeting, Abdulsalami spoke to the press, mentioning that they had conversed with Bazoum and heard his perspective.

Bazoum discussed the challenges he’s been facing and what he had experienced. Abdulsalami conveyed that this information would be communicated to ECOWAS leaders.

He added that the doors were now open for further discussions, aiming for a long-lasting solution.

Abdulsalami didn’t provide specific details about the conversation they had with the ousted president.

A few weeks ago, CNN reported that Bazoum had communicated to a friend via text messages that he had been isolated from human contact and lacked access to food and medicine.

Bazoum also explained that he was living without electricity, as Nigeria had cut off power following the coup.

His perishable food had gone bad, leaving him with only dry pasta and rice to eat.
