14-year-old housemaid over m∪rder of FUTMINNA lecturer

The Niger State Police Command has taken into custody a 14-year-old named Joy Afekafez in connection with the murder of Dr. Mrs. Funmilola Adefolalu, a lecturer at the Federal University of Technology, FUT, Minna.

Joy, who worked as a housemaid for the deceased, is now a suspect in the case. The tragic incident occurred at the Gbaiko Area of Minna on a Sunday.

A statement released by the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Wasiu Abiodun, confirmed the arrest of the suspect for culpable homicide at a residence in the Gbeganu area of Minna on Monday around 9:00 pm.

According to Abiodun, during questioning, Joy confessed to having been the lecturer’s housemaid for approximately three weeks before being dismissed for her misconduct.

Subsequently, after losing her job, Joy sought the assistance of her classmates named Walex and Smart. Together, they conspired to carry out an attack on the lecturer at her home.

On a Saturday around 4 pm, they arrived at the lecturer’s residence on a motorcycle. Joy approached the gate, and when the lecturer opened it, her accomplices, Walex and Smart, entered the house.

They assaulted the lecturer, striking her with a stool and repeatedly stabbing her with knives.

They also made off with her phone, and laptop, and disabled the vehicle parked in the compound before fleeing the scene.

On Sunday, the deceased’s friends and church members visited her home in the Gbaiko Area of Minna as they were unable to reach her by phone.

Meanwhile, the Voice of Mercy Ministry, where the deceased served as a Pastor, expressed deep sadness and shock over the incident.

In a statement issued by Pastor Bolaji Olanipekun, the Head of Media and Communications, the church emphasized the need for justice and urged the involved law enforcement agencies to leave no stone unturned in their investigation.
