A distressing incident of child abuse has led to the arrest and detention of a 37-year-old woman identified as Mariam Stephen by the Rivers State Police Command.
The woman was apprehended for allegedly subjecting her child, named Covenant, to multiple assaults.
The arrest came after human rights activist, Harrison Gwamnishu, received a complaint on his Facebook page and promptly took action.
Gwamnishu’s Rivers State team, led by Comrade Adebayo Steve, acted swiftly on the report and apprehended the woman.
Mariam Stephen is currently in police custody at the Special Area Rumukoro police station in Port Harcourt.
“Today, responding on child abuse complaint posted on Facebook, this evening, our Rivers State Team led by Comrade Adebayo Steve swung into action and swiftly arrested 37-year-old Mariam Stephen for multiple assaults on her child named Convenant.
She is currently detained at the police station Special Area Rumukoro, Portharcourt and will be charged to court as soon as investigation is completed. Special thanks to Rivers State Police Command for their continued assistance to us.” he wrote
Authorities are actively investigating the case, and once the investigation is completed, she will be charged to court to face the consequences of her alleged actions. (CONTINUE READING HERE)
