President Bola Ahmed Tinubu will make a broadcast to the nation at 7 pm on Monday, July 31, 2023, according to a statement by his presidential spokesman, Dele Alake.
The broadcast will be aired on television, radio stations, and other electronic media outlets, with the Nigerian Television Authority and Radio Nigeria providing network services for the transmission.
The exact content of the broadcast has not been disclosed, but it comes at a time when the nation is facing widespread hardship, primarily due to the removal of fuel subsidy, leading to an increase in petrol prices.
The president has been appealing for calm, assuring Nigerians that his government is working diligently to improve living conditions.
Tinubu has compared the current state to labor room pain, indicating that the gains are forthcoming.
However, with the nationwide protest of organized labor and the ongoing strike by the Nigerian Association of Resident Doctors (NARD), the situation remains tense.
The NARD recently rejected the 25% increment in basic salary offered by the federal government and demanded the full restoration of the Consolidated Medical Salary Structure to its value as of 2009.
In response, NARD has continued its nationwide total and indefinite strike until the government addresses their demands.
The association has called for the immediate release of the circular on the One-for-One policy to replace exited clinical workers, stating that the depletion of clinical staff due to brain drain is putting immense pressure on its members and affecting patient care. (CONTINUE READING HERE)
