Yar’Adua, an All Progressives Congress (APC) lawmaker was appointed two days after Senator Abdul Ningi was suspended to serve as Northern Senators’ Forum new head.
Ningi, a representative for Bauchi Central, said that the upper house had added N3.7 trillion to the 2024 budget.
While budget padding is not a new issue in Nigeria, this is the first time a senator in office who actively participated in the budget’s passage has accused lawmakers of it.
Ningi attributed his resignation on Tuesday to developments in the north, the National Assembly, and the country as a whole.
In addition, the forum designated Senator Tahir Mungono of Borno North as its spokesman, succeeding Senator Sumaila Kawu, who had been cautioned by the Senate to refrain from disseminating anything that may incite instability in the nation. [CONTINUE READING HERE]
