Tens of thousands of mourners, including political and religious leaders from across the globe, have gathered at the Vatican today to bid farewell to Pope Francis.
According to the Vatican, 130 official delegations are attending the solemn ceremony, among them 55 Heads of State, 14 Heads of government, and 12 reigning monarchs.
High-profile figures such as French President Emmanuel Macron, British Prime Minister Keir Starmer, outgoing German Chancellor Olaf Scholz, and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, and US President Donald Trump are among those present, reflecting the deep international respect commanded by Pope Francis.
Royal families have also joined the gathering, with Britain’s Prince William, Spain’s King Felipe VI, and Queen Letizia among the dignitaries paying their respects in St. Peter’s Square.
Crowds have poured into the Vatican, reminiscent of past papal farewells.
