Woman, Esther Matiya, Beaten To Dêath By Her Ex Husband, Vincent Kurebo

A 44-year-old woman from Samfya District, identified as Esther Matiya, has tragically lost her life after reportedly being beaten by her former husband.

Esther, who was a former employee of Chifunabuli District Council, met her untimely demise during a violent altercation that occurred between the 1st and 2nd of July. Her ex-husband, Vincent Kurebo, is currently on the run, evading authorities.

According to sources, an intense confrontation unfolded between Esther and Vincent, leading to a fatal outcome.

In a desperate attempt to protect her two children, aged five and ten, Esther advised them to seek refuge at a family friend’s residence during the altercation.

The children complied and left their home, only to return the following morning. To their shock and dismay, they discovered the house locked. Determined to find their mother, they peered through the bedroom window, where a heart-wrenching scene awaited them. Esther lay lifeless in a pool of blood, while a blood-stained pounding stick lay beside her.

Confirming this distressing incident, Fwambo Siame, the Commanding Officer of Luapula Province, revealed that Chitembo Local Court had recently granted the couple a divorce on June 29, 2023. The divorce was a result of the ongoing marital disputes that plagued their relationship.

The local authorities have launched a manhunt for Vincent Kurebo, urging anyone with information regarding his whereabouts to come forward and assist in the investigation. The police are committed to bringing him to justice and ensuring that Esther Matiya’s tragic death does not go unpunished.
