Woman arraigned over missing 14-year-old girl in Ondo

  • Gbemisola Obakpolor, a 32-year-old trader, has been arraigned before an Ore Chief Magistrates’ Court in Ondo over the disappearance of a 14-year-old girl in her custody.
  • The accused deceitfully took the girl away from her mother under the guise of putting her in college but failed to do so, and the girl has not been found since.
  • The accused pleaded not guilty to the one count charge of taking the girl away from the lawful custody of the mother, and was ordered to be remanded in the Ondo female Correctional Centre.

Gbemisola Obakpolor, a 32-year-old trader, has been charged before an Ore Chief Magistrates’ court in Ondo for the disappearance of 14-year-old Tosin Ajetomobi.

The girl was taken from her mother, Rashidat Ajetomobi, by the accused in November 2022 at Newtown, Odigbo in Ore under the pretext of enrolling her in college.

However, Tosin has not been found since.

The Police Prosecutor, Gbenga Martins arraigned Obakpolor before Chief Magistrate O.A Omofolarin for taking Tosin away from the lawful custody of her mother under deceit.

Martins claimed that the accused could not provide a reasonable account of Tosin’s whereabouts since she was taken away by Obakpolor. The defendant pleaded not guilty to the charge, and the prosecutor sought an adjournment to study the case file and gather witnesses for the trial.

The defense team did not oppose the prosecutor’s application but requested the court to grant bail to the accused in the most liberal terms. The prosecutor, however, opposed the bail application, claiming that the defendant might abuse the privilege or run away if granted bail.

Mr. Jayeola Ogungbade, counsel to the complainant, urged the court to take note of the accused’s boasting that nothing would happen if the child was not found. After listening to both parties’ submissions, Chief Magistrate O.A Omofolarin granted the prosecutor’s prayer and ordered the accused’s remand in the Ondo female Correctional Center.

In a separate incident, Ibrahim Adamu, who was recruited into the Nigeria Navy in 2019, and Abdulwahab, a correctional service officer in Kaduna State, were arrested for stealing a Mercedes Benz C300 car in Delta state.

Adamu, in his confession, stated that he made the plan to steal the car while on a course in Sapele, Delta state, and convinced Abdulwahab to join him. They saw a vehicle without a number plate in Sapele, pursued the driver to a village, and took over the steering from him.

The driver offered them money to settle the matter, but they refused and demanded N500,000. The driver paid N400,000, which was transferred to Adamu’s account.

They were on their way to Abuja to sell the car when the police arrested them. Abdulwahab claimed that Adamu invited him to Warri for the job, and it was his first time being involved in robbery.
