Woman, 29, D!es After Alleged Assàult by Husband in Owerri

A 29-year-old woman, Olumma Chizoba Lucy Akataobi, is reported to have died in Owerri, Imo State, following an alleged physical assault by her husband.

The incident is said to have occurred late on Monday night, February 2, with family members claiming her death is a direct result of domestic violence.

The deceased’s sister, Ezinne Onyedikachi Brenda Akataobi, is demanding justice, accusing Olumma’s husband, Kelechi Prince Okeke, of beating her sister to death. Ezinne stated the alleged attack stemmed from an argument over ₦35,000, which she explained was a customer’s payment that had been deposited into the husband’s bank account.

“She only asked him for her ₦35,000 to continue her business the next day, and he killed her,” Ezinne alleged.

Ezinne contested a different account being circulated, in which the husband reportedly claimed Olumma collapsed while eating and complained of chest pain before her death. She insisted her sister was in good health and had made plans to go to the market the following morning.

The sister further alleged that the family had previously cautioned the husband against abusing Olumma and had advised her to leave the marriage.

In a subsequent update, Ezinne confirmed that Kelechi is currently in police custody at the State Criminal Investigation Department (CID) in Owerri as the investigation proceeds.
