What applied to Plateau, Ekiti states in May 2004 should also apply to Rivers state — Reno Omokri spills

Former Presidential aide, Reno Omokri, has questioned political figures who are expressing concerns over President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s recent declaration of a State of Emergency in Rivers State.

Omokri pointed out that when former President Olusegun Obasanjo declared States of Emergency in Plateau and Ekiti states, first on May 18, 2004, and again on October 19, 2006, the decision was widely accepted with little to no opposition.

He emphasised that at the time, every major political figure in Nigeria, including the presidential candidates of the 2003 election, held prominent positions in government, either as governors or in other influential roles.

Omokri noted that despite their high-ranking positions, none of these figures objected to Obasanjo’s action.

The statement reads:

“Under President Olusegun Obasanjo, States of Emergency were declared in Plateau and Ekiti states on Tuesday, May 18, 2004, and on Thursday, October 19, 2006. Every single Presidential candidate in the 2003 election was in government then, either as Governors or in other high positions. None of them opposed President Obasanjo then.
