Abia Governor Alex Otti declared on Friday that all pension arrears owed by pensioners in the state have been settled by the state.
According to Mr. Otti, as of last Thursday, all of the pensions and arrears owed by around 12,500 pensioners have been paid off. He made this revelation during the monthly press conference in Umuahia.
He said that more than N9 billion of the N10 billion budget had been spent on the exercise up to this point.
The governor noted that his government had committed to clearing all outstanding pension arrears by the end of 2023, when it took office on May 29.
“We will pay 100% of pensions as we are paying 100% of salaries. We will never again have a backlog of pensions and arrears to be paid,” Mr. Otti pledged.
The state’s healthcare delivery system will continue to be given top priority, according to the governor’s office.
He said that more than eighty physicians had been hired by the government and an organization to provide free medical care throughout the state. [CONTINUE READING HERE]
