We’re tackling issues of illegal mining — Ministry of Solid Minerals reveals

Special Assistant on Media to the Minister of Solid Minerals Development, Segun Tomori, has stated that the Ministry of Solid Minerals Development is working towards tackling the issues of banditry and illegal mining in the country.

Tomori explained that the level of banditry linked to mining would not be in existence if the bandits weren’t backed by powerful people.

He also emphasised on how Bola Tinubu’s fight against banditry has made a great impact, referencing the death of bandit leader Turji Bello’s brother, and also the ban lift on exploration on mining activities in Zamfara.

He said:

“Senator Oshiomole, what he’s saying is not absolutely new, the minister has said it that powerfil Nigerians are behind the illegal mining. The kind of mining that happens in Zamfara for instance, or the North West or part of North East cannot happen if it’s not backed by powerful people, so he’s not saying he’s simply rehashing what the minister is saying.

“That being said, we can see the single minded purpose of the president since inception has been tackling banditry. Just last week, a renowned bandit leader Turji Bello lost his brother, lost his second in command and is on the run as we speak, and just in December last year before Christmas, we released a lifting on the ban on exploration and mining activities in Zamfara, because of the improved security in the state.

“A lot is being done, daily bandits are being desimated, Boko Haram as we once knew it before is fast phasing out from our consciousness because of the effort of this administration, the coordination, the synergy we’ve not seen in the security forces led by the NSA is doing a fantastic job, we’re taking the battle frontally to banditry, tackling those issues that senator Oshiomole has mentioned.” [CONTINUE READING HERE]>>>>>
