“We’re Open To Dialogue With Repentant Bándits” – Sokoto State Government

The Special Adviser on Security Matters to the Sokoto State Governor, Col. Ahmed Usman (rtd), says the state government is willing to engage in dialogue with repentant bandits who are ready to lay down their arms and embrace peace.

Usman made the remarks while addressing journalists, reiterating the administration’s commitment to lasting peace and security through both military and non-violent means.

His words:

“We wholeheartedly welcome any development that promotes peace and security in our region.

“It’s important to recognize that, historically, many conflicts have ended not solely through force, but through dialogue.

“In Sokoto, we’re open to engaging in negotiations with bandits who are genuinely willing to surrender and embrace peace.”

Meanwhile, Governor Ahmad Aliyu has approved a Multidimensional Poverty Index (MPI) Survey to be conducted across the state from June 19 to July 9, 2025.

The survey, to be implemented in partnership with Redwire Marketing Consulting, is designed to generate data on poverty, inequality, and access to basic services, with minimal cost to the government.

According to the Commissioner for Budget and Economic Planning, Dr Abubakar Mohammad Zayyana, the initiative aligns with the governor’s Nine-Point Smart Agenda and will cover areas such as education, healthcare, employment, standard of living, and essential services.

“This survey will provide the government with reliable and actionable insights to guide policies aimed at improving living standards and addressing socio-economic vulnerabilities,” Zayyana said in a statement.

The state government believes the results will complement its efforts to address insecurity by improving socio-economic conditions, especially among vulnerable communities. [CONTINUE READING HERE]>>>>>
