“We will start blocking loan apps that harass their customers,” the Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission announced.
Numerous Nigerians have voiced their complaints about the abuse they receive from these loan sharks.
Adamu Abdullahi, the interim head of the commission, asserted that the organization has started to address the problem.
”It would soon be history in the country that online platforms that many people know as loan sharks, where some Nigerians access money quickly to solve urgent issues,” Abdullahi told the BBC.
Remember how the Nigeria Data Protection Commission claimed in March that it was looking into more than 400 examples of online lending applications compromising users’ privacy?
Investigations have shown that “loan apps are overly intrusive,” according to the statement.
Additionally, the NDPC is requesting a ban or limitation on cellphone numbers that have been discovered to be exploited by lenders to violate their clients’ privacy.
“They generally violate the principles of data protection and privacy because they have access to contacts, pictures, messages, etc. of data subjects,” the commission stated. [CONTINUE READING HERE]
