WATCH VIDEO: Senate Adjourns Screening Of Ministerial Nominees

The Senate’s screening of President Bola Tinubu’s 48 ministerial nominees continued on Saturday for the fifth non-consecutive day.

Among the nominees screened were Information Technology (IT) experts Lola Ade-John from Lagos State and Bosun Tijani from Ogun State. They shared their insights on leveraging IT for Nigeria’s development.

Bosun Tijani faced questions about past tweets deemed “non-patriotic” towards Nigeria, but he apologized to the Senate, and his session concluded with him taking a bow.

Following Tijani, Isiak Salako, another nominee from Ogun State, took the podium for the screening.

The list of nominees to be screened also included Festus Keyamo, Tahir Mamman, Maigari Ahmadu, and Mariya Mahmoud.

After the screening session, the lawmakers took a break and planned to resume around 5:30 pm. The Senate then continued with the screening of Tahir Mamman, who also took a bow after being questioned.

Later on, Uba Ahmedu, the nominee from Taraba State, participated in the screening process and eventually left the floor.

However, the Senate decided to postpone the screening of the last two nominees from Kano and Delta State (Keyamo) to its next legislative day, which will be on Monday.

On July 27, 2023, President Tinubu submitted a 28-man list to the Senate for confirmation. Later, on August 2, 2023, he sent an additional list of 19 nominees. One nominee from Kano State, Maryam Shetty, was withdrawn on August 4, 2023, and replaced with Keyamo and Mahmoud.

The Senate has already screened the first batch of 28 nominees and 13 of the second batch.

During previous sessions, the Senate screened various nominees, including ex-governors, former state officials, and experts from different fields.
