The late Emir of Zuru, Maj. Gen. Muhammad Sami (retd.), who passed away in a London hospital at the age of 81, has been laid to rest in his hometown, Zuru, Kebbi State.
His burial drew dignitaries, family, and thousands of mourners.
Vice President Kashim Shettima led the federal government’s delegation, alongside Kebbi State Governor, Nasir Idris, the Sultan of Sokoto, Sa’ad Abubakar, and the Emir of Kano, Lamido Sanusi, to honour the late monarch.
The remains of the emir arrived at Zuru airstrip on Friday morning and were conveyed to the Zuru Central Mosque, where the Chief Imam, Suleiman Tanko, led funeral prayers after Jumu’ah. All major markets and shops in Zuru were closed as a mark of respect.
Shettima described the emir’s death as “a monumental loss to Kebbi, the North, and Nigeria,” conveying President Bola Tinubu’s condolences to the family and people of Zuru Emirate.
The emir, a former military administrator of Bauchi State, was later buried at his residence.
