(VIDEO) Flamingos Beat Dominican Republic 1-0: Nigeria Set for USA Showdown Quarterfinals

Bankole Olowookere’s squad made a bit of history in their final group-stage clash.

With Onyedikachi Ekezie, Peace Effiong, and Harmony Chidi taking a breather, Coach Olowookere shuffled things up, starting Rokibat Azeez, Blessing Ifitezue, and Ramotalahi Kareem instead.

Wednesday morning’s Group A showdown at the FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup saw Shakirat Moshood pull off a stunner. In the 89th minute, she fired from 24 yards out, slamming the ball into the net and handing Nigeria a hard-fought win over a stubborn Dominican Republic side.

The victory gave the Flamingos three crucial points, putting them ahead of Ecuador, who cruised past New Zealand 4-0 to finish with six points and earn a spot against Spain on Sunday.

And, just like clockwork, Nigeria now preps for a quarterfinal battle with the USA this Saturday.

Meanwhile, Santo Domingo had its own historic moment. The match between the Dominican Republic and Nigeria drew the biggest crowd ever for any Dominican Republic national team, packing the stadium with 13,535 fans.
