US Seizes Nigerian-Owned Supertanker Over Crude Thèft, P!racy Allegations

The United States Coast Guard and Navy have seized a Nigerian-owned supertanker named Skipper over suspicions of crude oil theft, piracy, and other transnational crimes.

The 20-year-old vessel, owned by Nigeria-based Thomarose Global Ventures Ltd., was illegally flying the Guyanese flag. Authorities in Guyana confirmed the tanker was not on their national registry.

U.S. President Donald Trump announced the seizure on December 10, 2025. Investigations are ongoing, with officials also probing whether the vessel transported a large quantity of hard drugs and was part of a criminal network allegedly linked to money laundering.

Records from Nigeria’s Corporate Affairs Commission show Thomarose Global Ventures Ltd. is currently listed as an inactive company.
