The Deputy Governor of Bayelsa State, Senator Lawrence Ewhrudjakpo, has died after collapsing suddenly in his office on Thursday afternoon.
According to reports, the deputy governor slumped around 1:30 p.m. and was urgently rushed to the Federal Medical Centre (FMC) in Yenagoa, where he was pronounced dead shortly after arrival.
The incident triggered an immediate emergency response, with eyewitnesses stating he appeared to be in critical condition upon being taken into the hospital.
While the exact medical cause has not been officially confirmed, sources close to him have linked the sudden collapse to his demanding workload, with initial suggestions pointing to a possible cardiac-related complication.
Security personnel have cordoned off the hospital premises as top government officials begin to arrive to pay their respects.
