University Of Ibadan Professor Shot Dead By Gunmen

A professor of the University of Ibadan, Opeyemi Isaac Ajewole, was brutally killed by unknown gunmen on Monday night, June 5, 2023.

The professor, who worked in the Department of Forest Resources Management, was shot dead in the Olororo area of Ojoo in Ibadan.

Reports indicate that Professor Ajewole was on his way home to the Moniya area of Ibadan when the assailants attacked him.

The gunmen, after perpetrating the heinous act, fled the scene with the late professor’s Toyota Corolla car, adding further distress to the grieving family.

The tragic incident, which occurred around 9 pm, was confirmed by a university staff member who expressed deep sorrow over the loss. Describing Professor Ajewole as a pleasant, humble, and easy-going individual, the colleague mourned the untimely demise of a respected academic.

Joke Akinpelu, the Principal Assistant Registrar of Public Communications at the University of Ibadan, also confirmed the devastating news.

However, the motive behind the attack remains uncertain, leaving the university authorities to contemplate whether the assailants were armed robbers or hired assassins.
