Delhi Police have apprehended three individuals in connection with the shocking murder of two sisters in Southwest Delhi’s RK Puram area.
The incident occurred in the early hours of Sunday morning when armed assailants attacked the victims’ residence, seeking to confront the homeowner, Lalit, over an alleged debt of ₹10,000.
According to police reports, a group of 15 to 20 armed men arrived at Ambedkar Basti in RK Puram at around 4 am. They forcibly knocked on the door of Lalit’s house and resorted to pelting bricks when there was no response.
After their initial attempt failed, the assailants temporarily retreated but returned when Lalit and his two sisters stepped outside to investigate the commotion.
Without warning, the attackers opened fire, fatally shooting the sisters identified as 30-year-old Pinky and 29-year-old Jyoti. The women sustained gunshot wounds to their chests and stomachs and were immediately rushed to SJ Hospital for medical treatment.
Tragically, despite the best efforts of medical professionals, both sisters succumbed to their injuries. Lalit was also grazed by a bullet but managed to escape unharmed. He later informed the police that the dispute over the loan involved a local individual named Dev.
The brutal incident has sparked outrage and concern regarding the deteriorating law and order situation in the capital. Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal expressed his condolences to the victims’ families and voiced his apprehension about the safety of Delhi’s residents.
In a tweet, he questioned the city’s law enforcement, stating that instead of addressing the issue, those responsible were attempting to seize control of the Delhi government. Kejriwal suggested that if the law and order situation fell under the jurisdiction of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government rather than the Lieutenant Governor (LG), the city would be a safer place.
The swift response by the Delhi Police resulted in the arrest of three suspects involved in the heinous crime. Authorities have initiated a thorough investigation to ascertain the full extent of the incident and identify any additional individuals involved. The police will leave no stone unturned in their pursuit of justice for the victims and their grieving families.
