Two Police Officers Nabbed for Alleged Kidnapping of Minors in Sokoto

Two Sokoto State Police Command officers, ASP Kulu and Elizabeth Ojah, have been taken into custody on suspicion of kidnapping children in the state, according to the command.

The Federal Capital Territory Police Command detained the policemen on suspicion of kidnapping five children.

A statement released on Friday, May 3, by the command’s spokesperson, ASP Ahmad Rufai, confirmed the arrest and stated that investigations into the purported kidnapping of five state-owned children had begun.

“Both the suspects and victims were transferred and handed over to the command from FCT police command for further investigation into the matter,” the PPRO said.

Three children under the age of two and Asmau Ya’u, a five-year-old who was allegedly seized en route to an Islamiyya school in Sokoto, were among those taken captive.

The suspects were reportedly taken into custody while in an 18-seater commercial bus from Sokoto to Abuja. The passengers reportedly saw that the children’s guardians were unable to nurse the children throughout the seven-hour ride, and they reported this to the police when they were close to Abuja.

According to Sirajo Madawaki, a state representative of the Human Rights Network, the issue was moved from Abuja to the network office in the state, and an inquiry was thereafter launched.

Madawaki promised that the network will see the case through to its natural end, prosecute the offenders, and arrange for the children to be reunited with their parents.

Prior to her journey to Sokoto, the suspect, ASP Kulu, who was allegedly stationed with the Kubwa Division, requested leave, but it had not been approved. [CONTINUE READING HERE]
